The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government, saying the country is not moving in the right direction under the current administration.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking on Politics Today, a programm on Channels Television.
Abdullahi expressed concern over what he described as unprecedented hardship facing Nigerians, particularly among the poor, and accused the government of denying the reality of citizens’ suffering.
“The kind of hardship Nigerians are faced with today is unprecedented, but what is even more troubling is the denial of the reality of the majority of the people,” he said.
According to him, available records and indicators point to a worsening national situation, despite repeated assurances from the government that the economy is improving.
“Every single record has shown that Nigeria is not going in the right direction, yet they keep telling us that the economy is doing very well. They tell people not to worry, that even if you are hungry, just wait a little and something will happen,” Abdullahi stated.
He criticised the administration for what he described as continuous campaigning three years into its tenure, rather than taking responsibility for governance.
“This is the third year of this administration, and they are still campaigning and making promises as if they are not the ones who have been in power for the past three years,” he added.
Abdullahi also accused the government of lacking empathy and sensitivity to the plight of ordinary Nigerians, describing the situation as “mind-bending.”
He further criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s frequent foreign travels, especially during periods of national difficulty, contrasting it with the leadership style of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“This president keeps travelling out of the country at will, even when there is crisis. Former President Goodluck Jonathan did not abandon the country when faced with serious challenges. He didn’t run away or go on holidays while terrible things were happening,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC spokesman urged the government to show greater concern for citizens’ welfare and address the growing economic and social challenges confronting the country.
