Following Governor Ahmadu Fintiri’s defection to the All Progressives Congress APC, the ruling party now holds sway over the majority of Nigerian states, leaving only a small number under opposition control.

The Peoples Democratic Party PDP now governs just three states: Oyo, Bauchi, and Zamfara. Meanwhile, other opposition parties retain influence in a handful of states, including Anambra under the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA, Abia State with the Labour Party LP, and Osun State under the Accord Party.

This shift further consolidates APC’s dominance across the federation, giving the party significant control over policymaking and governance nationwide. Opposition parties, while limited in number, continue to play politically important roles in their respective states.
