Umar Sani, Senior Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former Vice President Namadi Sambo, has suggested that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may consider disciplinary action against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Sani noted that the PDP’s disciplinary committee is now active and may hold Wike accountable for his actions, as no member is above the party’s rules.
Sani explained that at the time of Wike’s alleged infractions, the PDP did not have a disciplinary committee in place. However, with the recent formation of a committee led by Chief Tom Ikimi, the party now has the structure needed to address any violations of its rules. This development indicates that the PDP is taking steps to strengthen internal discipline and enforce party regulations.
“The issue has been oversimplified, with many framing it as a clash between Abubakar Atiku and Nyesom Wike. But the real driving force is the Governors’ Forum, which had been dormant but has now awakened. The Forum is actively working to resolve the crisis,” Sani clarified, emphasizing that the situation extends beyond individual rivalries.
He further explained that while court orders may prevent the removal of officials, they do not prohibit the party from suspending members or imposing other forms of discipline. With the newly established committee, Sani expressed confidence that the PDP would thoroughly review the situation and take appropriate measures if necessary.
“There was no disciplinary committee when Wike allegedly violated party rules. Now that we have a committee in place, let’s give them time to do their job before assuming Wike is above party rules. Let’s see if they recommend disciplinary action against him,” he stated, urging patience as the committee conducts its assessment.
Sani’s remarks indicate that the PDP is determined to uphold its internal processes and enforce accountability among its members. The party’s focus on strengthening its disciplinary framework signals its intent to address internal conflicts and maintain party unity as it navigates challenges ahead.
As the PDP’s disciplinary committee moves forward, all eyes will be on their decision regarding Wike, and whether the party will take a firm stance on enforcing its rules and maintaining discipline within its ranks.
