Lennox Linton, the former leader of Dominica’s United Workers’ Party (UWP), has resigned from his position as party president, a move that has taken the political community by surprise. The resignation letter, submitted on June 30, 2025, did not provide specific reasons for his departure. Dr. Thomson Fontaine, the current political leader of the UWP, confirmed the resignation but noted that no explanation was given.

Linton’s decision to step down follows a series of internal challenges within the party. In April 2025, Senator Delbert Paris, who had been elected as deputy political leader in December 2024, unexpectedly resigned from his position. This development raised questions about the party’s internal dynamics and the effectiveness of its leadership structure.

Political analysts suggest that Linton’s resignation may be attributed to several factors, including internal party divisions, personal fatigue, and a lack of a unified vision within the UWP. Reports indicate that tensions between Linton and other party members, particularly under Dr. Fontaine’s leadership, had been escalating. Some members felt that Linton was being sidelined in significant party decisions, leading to increased frustration.

Additionally, Linton’s brother, Brian Linton, publicly supported his resignation, stating that Lennox had endured considerable challenges under Dr. Fontaine’s leadership. He emphasized that Lennox’s decision was a reflection of his commitment to meaningful change and his unwillingness to compromise on principles.

Despite stepping down as president, Linton remains active within the UWP. Sources close to the party have confirmed that he continues to support the party’s growth and development, indicating that his resignation is not a complete departure from political involvement.

The UWP is now faced with the task of addressing internal conflicts and rebuilding its leadership structure. The party’s ability to navigate these challenges will be crucial in determining its future role in Dominica’s political landscape.
