State pursues GBV case against Ace Ncobo despite ‘girlfriend’ wanting to withdraw

Former Premier Soccer League (PSL) General Manager and ex-FIFA referee, Andile “Ace” Ncobo, is facing serious legal challenges following allegations of domestic violence. On June 28, 2025, Ncobo was arrested in Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni, after his 27-year-old partner accused him of assaulting her during a domestic dispute. The incident was reportedly witnessed by a minor, adding gravity to the charges.

Despite the complainant’s subsequent withdrawal of the charges and her statement expressing no fear for her safety, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has decided to proceed with the case. NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane emphasized the organization’s commitment to protecting victims of gender-based violence (GBV), stating that the prosecution will continue as per the NPA’s directive not to withdraw domestic violence-related cases.

During a court appearance on July 8, 2025, Magistrate Bella Letoaba released Ncobo on a warning, citing the complainant’s withdrawal statement. However, the court imposed strict conditions, including compliance with an existing protection order and a prohibition on contacting the complainant. The matter has been postponed to September 3 for further investigation.
