The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, has criticized the administration led by President Bola Tinubu for its perceived indifference, insensitivity, and lack of responsiveness to the struggles of Nigerians. In an open letter to the President, Adams expressed disappointment with the current administration, highlighting the unbearable economic hardships faced by citizens.
Adams reflected on Nigeria’s abundant natural and human resources and lamented how past leaders since 1960 have mismanaged these assets, leading to widespread disillusionment. He noted that many Nigerians had hoped Tinubu, who campaigned with the slogan ‘Emilokan,’ would bring about positive change, especially in contrast to the previous administration’s record on poverty and insecurity. However, Adams argues that Tinubu’s presidency has failed to meet these expectations.
The letter emphasizes the steep rise in fuel prices from under N200 per litre in May 2023 to over N1000, and the dramatic depreciation of the Naira from less than N740 to over N1600 per Dollar. Adams also questioned the effectiveness of Tinubu’s key economic advisors, Wale Edun (Finance Minister) and Yemi Cardoso (CBN Governor), who were former associates during Tinubu’s tenure as Lagos State Governor. He urged the President to address these critical economic issues and reconsider the performance of his administration.
