Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, founder of Omega Power Ministries, has issued an apology after facing backlash for a viral video in which he sought a wife for an autistic man under his care.

The post, shared on Chinyere’s Facebook page, offered financial incentives, including accommodation, salary, and other benefits, to any woman willing to marry the young man. Many viewers criticised the proposal as inappropriate and demeaning to women.

In response, Chinyere said: “I want to apologise to all the las who watched the video. I can never degrade any woman. If my comments were seen as degrading, I apologise openly. I am very, very sorry.”

The pastor explained that the post was motivated by concern for the young man, who was abandoned as a child and requires full-time care, including feeding, bathing, and other daily assistance. He noted that previous caregivers struggled to manage the man, prompting him to seek alternatives.

“I was trying to find a sustainable solution to ensure he is cared for properly. The idea of seeking a partner was intended to provide companionship and support, not to degrade women. I never intended it to be interpreted that way,” Chinyere said.

Chinyere also highlighted the support his ministry provides, including free schools, hospitals, and housing for children with special needs. “This young man, like the others, has access to education, medical care, and a caregiver. The intention was always to help him have a better life,” he added.

The pastor reiterated that any solution must prioritise the man’s safety and wellbeing. “I am trying to find a companion or caregiver who will accommodate him fully, but it must be done responsibly,” he said, concluding with an apology for any offence caused: “I am truly sorry if my posts offended anyone. My goal is always to care for those who cannot care for themselves.”
