Nigerian Senate Summons Security Chiefs Over Rising Insecurity

The Nigerian has once again summoned the nation’s security chiefs to address the escalating plaguing various regions. This decision follows a motion presented by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate , highlighting the alarming in killings, kidnappings, and other criminal activities across the country.

Senator Bamidele detailed several recent incidents underscoring the severity of the situation. In Agatu Local Government Area of State, multiple residents, including security personnel, were killed, and properties were destroyed. Similarly, in Logo Local Government Area of the same state, eleven residents lost lives in brutal attacks.

The Federal Capital Territory has also witnessed kidnappings, with victims being killed even after ransom payments. Additionally, the abduction of primary school pupils in Ekiti State and the bomb explosion in Bodija, Ibadan, which resulted in multiple fatalities and widespread destruction, have further concerns.

In response to these , the Senate has directed the Chief of , General Christopher Musa; Chief of Staff, General Taoreed Lagbaja; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla; and Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to appear before the chamber in a closed session. The objective is to discuss the current security challenges and strategize on effective measures to restore peace and order.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio the urgency of the situation, stating that the Senate has a responsibility to with the branch to resolve the rising insecurity. noted that after the interactive session with the security chiefs, the would be discussed with President Bola Tinubu to ensure a comprehensive approach to the security challenges the nation.
