Tinubu Reaffirms APC’s Mission at National Convention, Defends Reform Agenda

President Bola Tinubu has reiterated that the All Progressives Congress was founded as a platform for national transformation, focused on reducing poverty, strengthening security, and rebuilding key institutions across Nigeria.

Speaking at the party’s 4th Elective National Convention held at Eagle Square, the President emphasized that the APC was not created solely to win elections but to drive effective governance and sustainable development.

Tinubu explained that the party emerged from a collective resolve by its founders to rescue the country from economic decline and reposition it for long term growth. According to him, the convention serves as a moment to reaffirm unity and recommit to its vision under the theme “Unity in Progress Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Addressing concerns about Nigeria’s political landscape, Tinubu dismissed allegations that the APC aims to elish a one party state. He stressed that democracy depends on a vibrant opposition and healthy political competition.

The President also criticized opposition figures for their stance on the proposed Electoral Act 2026, describing persistent s on the bill as unhelpful to democratic progress.

On the economy, Tinubu acknowledged that ongoing reforms have been difficult but necessary. He defended his administration’s decision to remove what he described as unsustainable policies, including subsis, noting that meaningful economic growth requires tough choices and disciplined governance.

Despite current economic challenges and global pressures, including tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran, Tinubu said his government has made measurable progress, particularly in infrastructure development.

He pointed to ongoing investments in major road projects and superhighways as evidence of the administration’s commitment to long term national development.

Expressing optimism, Tinubu assured Nigerians that the present economic sacrifices would ultimately lead to ility, growth, and improved living conditions, urging continued patience and support for the reform agenda.
