President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated renowned educationist and former Secretary-General of Afenifere, Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa, on his 87th birthday, lauding his enduring contributions to Nigeria’s political and educational development. In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Arogbofa as a principled leader and one of the last surviving disciples of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, noting his unwavering commitment to progressive ideals.
Tinubu praised the elder statesman’s leadership and service, highlighting his role in Afenifere, where he demonstrated loyalty and discipline, particularly in supporting the group’s leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti. He commended Arogbofa for his integrity, honesty, and dedication to unity and solidarity in Yorubaland, while also acknowledging his early support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
Beyond politics, the President celebrated Arogbofa’s contributions to education, noting his tenure as a school principal and as National President of the All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools, where he helped improve standards in secondary education. Tinubu also recognized Arogbofa’s intellectual contributions, particularly his book “Understanding Afenifere,” which documents the history and ideology of the Yoruba socio-political organisation.
“On this occasion of his 87th birthday, I pray that God Almighty will grant him good health and keep him with us for more years so we can continue to drink from his fountain of knowledge, wisdom and experience,” Tinubu said. Bashorun Arogbofa remains a respected figure in Nigeria’s progressive political movement and a steadfast advocate for unity within the Yoruba community.
