The race for the Ballon dOr Feminin in 2026 is already generating excitement as some of the best players in women football continue to deliver outstanding performances across Europe and beyond.

Early favourites for the prestigious award are being shaped by performances in the UEFA Womens Champions League as well as domestic competitions such as the Women Super League and Liga F. Strong displays at club level and early national team form ahead of the next major international tournament cycle are also influencing the rankings.

One of the leading contenders is Melchie Dumornay of Olympique Lyonnais Feminin. She has been described as one of the most dangerous players in Europe in early 2026. Dumornay has played a central role in Lyon’s Champions League campaign, leading the team in both shots and goals while also demonstrating her versatility as a striker and creative playmaker.

Another strong contender is Alexia Putellas of FC Barcelona Femeni. The two time winner continues to perform at an elite level and remains the creative engine of Barcelona’s midfield. She is currently averaging more than one direct goal involvement per game in the ongoing Champions League season.

Germany international Klara Buhl of Bayern Munich Women has also emerged as a serious contender after dominating the assist charts in European competitions.

Meanwhile Mariona Caldentey of Arsenal Women continues to impress following her move to England, where her tactical intelligence and midfield control have been vital to Arsenal’s success.

Norwegian winger Caroline Graham Hansen of Barcelona has also reached a major milestone after scoring her 100th goal for the club while continuing to create scoring opportunities for teammates.

Other notable contenders include Temwa Chawinga of Kansas City Current, Alessia Russo of Arsenal, Sandy Baltimore of Chelsea Women and Linda Caicedo of Real Madrid Femenino.

However the reigning holder Aitana Bonmati of Barcelona remains a major benchmark in the race. After winning the award in 2023 2024 and 2025 she continues to deliver exceptional performances that keep her firmly among the top contenders for another historic win.
