FIFA has imposed disciplinary sanctions on Nigeria national football team and DR Congo national football team following incidents recorded during their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification match played on November 16 2025.

According to the latest disciplinary overview released by FIFA both football federations were found guilty of separate offences during the encounter and were subsequently fined under provisions of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

Nigeria was penalised for a breach relating to order and security at matches after spectators were reported to have thrown objects onto the field during the game. The offence falls under Article 17 and Article 17.2.b of the disciplinary regulations.

As a result the Nigeria Football Federation was fined 1000 Swiss francs by the global football governing body.

The Congolese football authorities received a heavier punishment after supporters were found to have used laser pointers or similar electronic devices during the same match.

The act violated Article 17.2.d of the disciplinary code and led to a fine of 5000 Swiss francs against the Fédération Congolaise de Football Association.

FIFA stated that disciplinary decisions are determined based on the circumstances surrounding each incident and the severity of the offence committed during matches.

The organisation also noted that sanctions can still be subject to appeal by the federations involved if they believe the ruling requires further review.

While the summary of sanctions has been released publicly to keep the media and football community informed FIFA explained that the full legal decisions and detailed rulings have been communicated directly to the respective football federations.

The sanctions serve as a reminder of the importance of maintaining discipline security and proper conduct by fans and officials during international football matches particularly in crucial competitions such as the World Cup qualifiers.
