The Vice Chancellor of Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology Ikere Ekiti, Professor Babatunde Omojola, has emphasised the importance of traditional rulers in shaping societal values and guiding the younger generation.
Omojola stated that the university would continue to strengthen partnerships with royal fathers across Ekiti State in order to promote peace, ility and sustainable development within the institution and surrounding communities.
The Vice Chancellor made this known on Saturday during a courtesy visit by the university management to the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Adeyemo Adejugbe, at his palace in Ado Ekiti.
According to Omojola, individuals and organisations that desire success in their endeavours should not overlook the guidance, prayers and wise counsel provided by traditional rulers.
He explained that the visit was aimed at seeking the monarch’s blessings for the continued growth and development of the university while also requesting the support of the traditional institution in promoting peace and harmony across Ekiti State.
The Vice Chancellor described traditional rulers as custodians of culture, tradition and moral values whose influence in maintaining peace and ility within society cannot be overstated.
He noted that collaboration between universities and traditional institutions has become increasingly important, especially at a time when higher institutions are expected to contribute significantly to national and community development.
Omojola also praised Oba Adejugbe, describing him as a respected and enlightened monarch whose contributions to the education sector remain remarkable. He highlighted the monarch’s role as Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Bauchi, noting that his leadership has helped strengthen the relationship between traditional institutions and the academic community in Nigeria.
In his response, Oba Adejugbe appreciated the university management for the visit and offered prayers for the continued progress of the institution. He assured the Vice Chancellor of the traditional institution’s support in promoting peace, ility and educational advancement in Ekiti State.
The monarch also encouraged the university management to remain committed to building a reputable institution that will make meaningful contributions to educational development in Ekiti State and Nigeria as a whole.
Members of the BOUESTI management team present during the visit included Deputy Vice Chancellor Development Professor Joseph Ekiran, Registrar Mrs Funmilola Adeusi, Bursar Babatunde Apata and the University Librarian Dr Sowemimo Adekunmisi.
