Governor Uba Sani has continued to implement policies that place farmers at the centre of development as part of efforts to transform agriculture in Kaduna State.

The State Commissioner for Agriculture, Murtala Mohammed Dabo, made this known during the flag off ceremony for the distribution of livestock support packages to 5,000 cooperative groups across the state.

Speaking at the event, the commissioner said the governor has demonstrated strong commitment to transforming agriculture from a subsistence activity into a major driver of economic growth and development.

According to him, the policy direction represents a significant shift aimed at creating employment opportunities, generating wealth and sustaining livelihoods in rural communities throughout the state.

Dabo described Governor Uba Sani as a strong supporter of farmers and noted that the livestock intervention programme is another step toward strengthening the agricultural sector.

He explained that the initiative is designed to support hardworking farmers and ensure that the livestock sector plays a critical role in improving food security, promoting economic diversification and boosting rural prosperity.

The commissioner said the programme aligns with the broader vision of the state government to position Kaduna as the agricultural and livestock hub of Northern Nigeria. He added that the strategy focuses on increasing productivity while encouraging innovation within the farming sector.

According to Dabo, the government took deliberate steps to ensure that beneficiaries selected for the current phase of the programme are genuine farmers organised into cooperative groups capable of making effective use of the livestock support packages.

He also acknowledged the contributions of farmer associations, traditional institutions, local government authorities and development partners whose collaboration helped strengthen the implementation of the programme.

Dabo urged beneficiaries to utilise the livestock and other resources provided to them responsibly, stressing that the support represents both an opportunity and a responsibility to improve agricultural productivity.

He further advised farmers to treat the resources not only as tools for increasing production but also as symbols of trust from the government, encouraging them to work collectively to boost agricultural output and economic development in their communities.
