Police Arrest Three Suspected Armed Robbers Recover Weapons and Stolen Phones in Oyo

The Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered weapons, mobile phones and cash during a stop and search operation in Ibadan.

Police Public Relations Officer Olayinka Ayanlade disclosed this in a statement released on Wednesday in Ibadan. He identified the suspects as Abiodun Michael, Olaoluwa Pamole and Ahmed Ismail, while another accomplice identified simply as Lamidi is currently on the run.

According to the police spokesperson officers on patrol at the General Gas area of Akobo in Lagelu Local Government Area intercepted a suspect riding a motorcycle. The suspect later identified as Abiodun Michael allegedly attempted to escape after sighting the police team but was quickly chased and arrested.

During interrogation the suspect reportedly confessed to participating in armed robbery operations with three accomplices. The group was said to have robbed unsuspecting residents at gunpoint around the Toll Gate and Egbeda areas of Ibadan.

Police investigations also revealed that the suspect had been on the police watch list for some time and was known to operate along the borders of Lagos State, Ogun State and Oyo State carrying out robbery activities.

Acting on the information a team of operatives from the command monitoring unit led by the Divisional Police Officer of Akobo Division stormed the suspects meeting point at Access Hotel in the Sawmill Onipepeye area along Iwo Road in Ibadan.

During the operation two other suspects Olaoluwa Pamole and Ahmed Ismail were arrested while Lamidi managed to escape.

A search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a Magnum pump action gun loaded with six live cartridges as well as several mobile phones including iPhone devices Tecno phones Redmi phones and a Samsung Galaxy S10. Other items recovered include a WiFi device power bank Oraimo radio four wristwatches and cash amounting to one hundred and thirty thousand naira.

The suspects also reportedly confessed to snatching a Honda car in Abeokuta in Ogun State.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State Femi Haruna has ordered that the case be transferred to the Command Monitoring Unit for further investigation and prosecution while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspect.

The police also appreciated the leadership of the Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu for strengthening proactive policing across the country and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suious activities.
