Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated that no individual or group can prevent him from visiting any part of Nigeria, stressing that every citizen has the constitutional right to move freely across the country. Obi made the statement during a visit to Peter University, Achina, Anambra State, while responding to warnings circulating on social media following an incident in Benin City.

“I am a Nigerian and I am free to go to any part of this country. It is a constitutional right that nobody can take away from me,” he declared. Obi highlighted that he recently traveled to Rivers State despite prior warnings, honoring a pre-existing invitation shortly after the Benin incident.

Obi also reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the African Democratic Congress ADC. “I’m not desperate to be the President of Nigeria, but I’m determined to see Nigeria work,” he stated, emphasizing the need for reforms that create opportunities for citizens and strengthen institutions. He added, “We want a country where the son of a nobody can become somebody without knowing anybody.”

The former governor explained his departure from the Labour Party, citing internal leadership disputes and concerns about the handling of court judgments within the party. These developments influenced his decision to move to ADC ahead of the next electoral cycle, as he seeks a platform aligned with his vision for national reforms and democratic participation.
