The Senate has recommended increasing the 2026 budget allocation for the Public Complaints Commission (PCC) from N29.46 billion to N109.02 billion to meet operational, personnel, and capital needs.

Senator Neda Imasuen (APC, Edo South) presented the harmonised 2026 budget report from the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions to the Senate Committee on Appropriations, chaired by Senator Olamilekan Adeola (APC, Ogun West). He explained that the Commission’s 2025 allocation of N14.46 billion was insufficient to cover staff salaries despite a 100 per cent release of funds.

For 2026, N28.39 billion is earmarked for Personnel Costs, including payment of the minimum wage, 15 months’ CONLESS arrears, five years’ promotion arrears, benefits for retired Secretaries, and recruitment of new staff. The remaining N1.07 billion is allocated to limited overhead costs.

The Commission requested additional funding of N30.26 billion for overheads, covering electricity tariffs, vehicle fuel, sewage, water, generators, training materials, and operational expenses. A further N50.36 billion is requested for Capital Costs, including headquarters expansion, construction of offices in 21 states, land payments, vehicle procurement, and research and development.

Senator Imasuen stressed the PCC’s vital role in addressing grievances from workers, contractors, and citizens petitioning the National Assembly. He also requested that the Appropriations Committee approve an increase of N20 million in the committee’s monthly allocation to cover office operations and logistics, effective January 2026.

The Senate’s recommendation underscores its commitment to ensuring the PCC can operate effectively and deliver timely justice to Nigerians.
