Abuja – The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has described the FCT area councils’ elections as peaceful, commending voters for their orderly conduct. Speaking on Saturday after monitoring polling units in Garki, Karu Chief’s Palace, Karshi, Kabusa, and Keti, Wike noted that while voter turnout in the city centre remained low, participation in satellite towns was impressive.

He emphasised that there were no reports of violence, ballot snatching, or disruptions, and praised security agencies for ensuring a hitch-free exercise. Wike also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission for their professionalism during the polls.

Responding to criticism by Senator Ireti Kingibe regarding movement restrictions from Friday evening to Saturday evening, Wike clarified that no curfew was imposed. Instead, movements were restricted with the approval of President Bola Tinubu to facilitate a smooth electoral process.

Wike urged residents to remain peaceful during result collation, stressing that the orderly conduct during voting should continue throughout the post-election period.
