Former News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Managing Director, Akin Osuntokun, has called on former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai to stop engaging in what he described as “kangaroo debate” and instead respond to serious allegations related to his tenure.

In a statement, Osuntokun urged el-Rufai to address claims of mismanagement involving ₦423.2 billion in loans and grants during his administration. He accused the former governor of using public engagements as “transferred aggression” to distract Nigerians from these allegations and of unnecessarily involving Nuhu Ribadu in the controversy.

Osuntokun referenced a June 2024 Kaduna State House of Assembly report, which accused el-Rufai’s administration of financial mismanagement. He noted that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has invited the former governor and other ex-officials for questioning, with el-Rufai expected to appear voluntarily at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on February 16, 2026.

He stressed that public accountability requires el-Rufai to confront the allegations directly rather than divert attention through superficial or contrived debates.
