Suspected bandits have reportedly attacked Kakafu community in Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State, abducting four residents during a raid around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. Villagers were left in shock following the incident.
According to sources, armed men stormed the agrarian settlement, firing sporadic gunshots into the air to create panic. A forest guard, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the assailants operated for several minutes without resistance before abducting the victims—one man and three females, the latter comprising a mother and her two daughters.
“The incident happened during the dark hours at Kakafu. The village is on the outskirts of Patigi, and there are no security personnel who can access the area at that time of the night,” the source said. Efforts to trace the attackers and the abductees have so far been unsuccessful, and residents remain traumatised.
Kwara State Police Command spokesperson Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the police had not yet received official reports but promised to provide updates once information is verified.
The attack comes amid rising insecurity in Kwara, following threats and assaults on communities in Oyun and Kaiama LGAs, and the February 3 attack on Woro town, which reportedly killed over 200 people and led to more than 100 abductions.
