Ex-Abia Lawmaker Paul Taribo Joins Labour Party to Support Governor Alex Otti’s Re-election

Former Abia State House of Assembly member, Chief Paul Taribo, representing Ukwa East State Constituency, has officially defected to the Labour Party, along with Mrs. Theresa Oxford Nwabara and over 100 supporters. The event took place at Ikwueke East Ward in Abia State.

Taribo, previously a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said his decision to join the Labour Party was motivated by Governor Alex Otti’s achievements and his desire to contribute to the Governor’s re-election in 2027. He pledged his loyalty to the Labour Party and committed to deepening its presence and influence in Ikwueke East Ward and Ukwa East Local Government Area.

“I left my former party, the APC, to join the Labour Party because I am motivated by the visible achievements of Governor Alex Otti and the desire to contribute to his re-election. I have confidence in the leadership style, vision, and developmental agenda of the Governor. I pledge my loyalty to the Labour Party and to strengthen its presence in Ukwa East,” Taribo said.

Chairman of Ukwa East LGA, Hon. Chibunna Akara, welcomed the new entrants, describing Taribo as a valuable addition. He highlighted that the Labour Party is an inclusive platform that attracts well-meaning individuals committed to service and development, regardless of political background. Akara emphasized that Taribo’s experience and political network would enhance the party’s grassroots strength ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Hon. Lewis Obianyi, current member representing Ukwa East Constituency, expressed confidence that the growing cohesion of the Labour Party in the area would secure Governor Otti’s re-election, bringing further development and improved welfare to the people of Ukwa East.

The Labour Party leadership in the area was commended for maintaining an open-door policy and actively recruiting credible individuals to consolidate the party at the grassroots.
