NDLEA Cracks Down on Drug Trafficking, Arrests Multiple Suspects Across Nigeria

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA have made a series of major drug busts across Nigeria, including the arrest of a 62-year-old Lagos businessman, Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke, at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport MAKIA for attempting to smuggle 1.589 kilograms of to China concealed in his stomach. The arrest occurred on Saturday, 31st January 2026, during passenger clearance for Ethiopian Airlines flight ET940.

NDLEA also seized 627.7 kilograms of skunk cannabis from a warehouse in Kubwa, FCT, and foiled an attempt to smuggle amphetamine concealed in MP3 speakers from Enugu to Abuja and Kaduna. Suspects Ebube Okeke, Evans Ugwu, Mohammed Eze Arinze, and Friday Michael were arrested during these operations. In Taraba, 1.8 kilograms of were intercepted in Hollandia yogurt packs, while in Oyo, 149.6 kilograms of skunk were recovered concealed in rice shafts.

Additional arrests included Adeniyi Adeola with thousands of tramadol capsules and pentazocine ampoules in Ibadan, Jimoh Nurudeen and accomplice Ogundipe Yusuf producing synthetic cannabis, and a petrol tanker in Kwara carrying 395,400 tramadol capsules. Other seizures involved 203 kilograms of skunk in Imo, 420 kilograms of skunk in Ondo, 31 wraps of in Lagos, and cannabis in Enugu.

NDLEA continues nationwide War Against Drug Abuse WADA activities, conducting sensitization programs in schools, workplaces, and communities. Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers for their professionalism and urged them to sustain the momentum in drug supply and demand reduction.
