Dangote Executive Honoured for Advancing Nigeria Refining Capacity

The Vice President Oil and Gas of Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, has been honoured with the Person of the Year award in recognition of his contributions to Nigeria oil and gas sector and his role in advancing the operations of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.

The award was presented at the 9th Annual Award and Lecture of the Daily Asset Newspapers held in Abuja. The ceremony attracted government officials, industry leaders, media executives, and other key stakeholders from across the country.

Speaking at the event, the Publisher of Daily Asset Newspaper, Dr Cletus Akwaya, described Edwin as a critical force behind the success of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. He said the refinery has continued to play a transformative role in boosting domestic refining capacity, improving the availability of petroleum products, and supporting Nigeria economic diversification efforts.

Akwaya noted that Edwin commitment to transparent stakeholder engagement, industry advocacy, and effective corporate communication has helped shape public understanding of the strategic importance of the refinery to Nigeria and the wider African energy landscape. According to him, the recognition reflects the growing impact of the Dangote refinery as a driver of industrial growth, job creation, and sustainable national development.

Reading the citation, Akwaya said the Person of the Year and Corporate Achiever award was conferred on Edwin for serving as a backbone in the establishment of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals, described as the largest single train refinery in the world. He added that the project has helped Nigeria move closer to self sufficiency in petroleum products and reduce dependence on imports.

Edwin was represented at the ceremony by the Dangote Group Senior General Manager for External Relations and Stakeholder Management, Alhaji Abatcha Bishara. In a statement, the Dangote Group reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Nigeria energy security, expanding domestic refining capacity, and supporting national economic growth.

The award further underscores the growing recognition of the Dangote refinery as a game changer in Nigeria petroleum sector.
