Lafarge Africa Expands Cement Plants to Boost Local Production and Infrastructure Growth

Lafarge Africa Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening local cement production in Nigeria with the planned expansion of its Sagamu Cement Plant in Ogun State and Ashaka Cement Plant in Gombe State. The building solutions company said the move is aimed at improving product availability supporting infrastructure development and enhancing operational efficiency across its key markets.

In a statement issued on Wednesday Lafarge Africa announced that the two new production lines will be dry plants equipped with modern technologies designed to improve energy efficiency and environmental performance. These include preheater kilns vertical raw mills and roller presses for cement mills which are expected to deliver more reliable and sustainable operations.

According to a notice submitted to the Nigerian Exchange Limited and the investing public and signed by the company secretary Adewunmi Alode the expansion of the Ashaka and Sagamu plants will significantly increase production capacity. Upon completion the Ashaka Cement Plant is expected to reach two million metric tonnes per annum while the Sagamu Cement Plant will expand to 3.5 million metric tonnes per annum.

The company noted that the increased capacity will strengthen its supply chain and enable it to serve customers more efficiently across Nigeria. Lafarge Africa added that the expansion will support growing demand from the housing commercial construction and infrastructure sectors.

The development follows the acquisition of 83.81 percent of Lafarge Africa by Huaxin Building Materials Group last year a move the company described as a strong demonstration of long term commitment to Nigerias infrastructural growth and economic development.

Speaking on the expansion the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Lolu Alade Akinyemi said the projects reflect confidence in the Nigerian market and its growth potential. He explained that beyond increasing capacity the investments will deliver operational sustainability benefits while supporting value creation job generation and economic activity in host communities.

Lafarge Africa Plc reaffirmed that it remains focused on disciplined execution of its expansion plans and transparent engagement with stakeholders as it continues to invest in strengthening its operations nationwide.
