Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully neutralized a top Boko Haram leader, Abu Khalid, identified as the group’s second-in-command in Sambisa Forest, Borno State, along with 10 other terrorists. The operation took place around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Komala general area of Konduga Local Government Area, according to the Joint Task Force (North East) Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba.
The offensive comes just 24 hours after troops eliminated another notorious commander, Julaibib, who was operating in the Gujba axis of the Timbuktu Triangle.
Lt. Col. Uba stated that Abu Khalid was a key figure in the Boko Haram hierarchy, responsible for coordinating operations and logistics in the Sambisa Forest. Weapons and supplies recovered during the operation included five AK-47 rifles, magazines, bicycles, assorted logistics and food items, and medical consumables. No casualties were reported among the troops.
The Joint Task Force emphasized that troop morale remains high and that clearance operations are ongoing across the Sambisa Forest, Mandara Mountains, Timbuktu Triangle, and other known hideouts of Boko Haram and ISWAP in the North East region. The Military High Command commended the troops for their dedication and urged them to sustain the operational tempo until all terrorist elements are neutralized, aiming for lasting peace and economic stability in the region.
Earlier, PUNCH Online reported that on 30 January 2026, troops killed Julaibib, an ISWAP commander operating around Kimba, Damboa LGA, and also neutralized three terrorists during an ambush between Ngazalgana and Lamusheri communities.
