Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has revealed that his administration has invested N6.1 billion in scholarships for more than 174,451 tertiary students, including those studying abroad, as part of a broader strategy to strengthen human capital development. He made the disclosure during the 17th convocation ceremony of Al-Qalam University, where former Governor Aminu Bello Masari received an honorary doctorate degree.

Radda emphasized that the state’s investments in scholarships, teacher recruitment, school infrastructure, and skills development are designed to prepare youths academically, morally, and economically for a globalized world. “Education is the most powerful instrument for empowerment and sustainable development. Our administration is committed to laying a solid foundation for learners from basic to tertiary levels,” he stated.

The governor highlighted the recruitment of 7,326 teachers, training of over 20,000 others, renovation and construction of classrooms, establishment of modern schools, and creation of skills centers. He also introduced the Katsina State Enterprise Development Agency (KASEDA) to equip youths and women with entrepreneurial and employable skills.

During the convocation, Radda donated three brand-new vehicles to the overall best graduating student and two outstanding Qur’an memorizers in the Musabaqatul Qur’an competitions, reinforcing the integration of moral and religious values with modern education.

He commended Al-Qalam University for complementing government efforts in delivering quality education and nurturing morally upright citizens, noting that the state provided the land for the institution and recently approved a perimeter fence for enhanced security.

Former Governor Aminu Masari encouraged universities to embrace technology and innovation, stressing that education should go beyond certificates to practical skills and problem-solving abilities.
