First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has emphasized the need for sustained investment in quality and inclusive education to prepare children and young people for a rapidly changing, technology-driven world. Her statement, released on January 24, 2026, marked the International Day of Education.

Mrs Tinubu highlighted that Nigeria must focus on empowering youth to think critically, act responsibly, and face the future with confidence and compassion. She stressed that education is the most powerful tool for acquiring knowledge, creativity, ethical judgment, and values necessary in an era increasingly shaped by innovation and automation.

Reflecting on this year’s theme, “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation,” the First Lady noted the vast opportunities presented by artificial intelligence (AI) but cautioned that technology must serve humanity, not the reverse. She urged that humans remain the primary drivers of AI, leveraging innovation while safeguarding societal values and promoting sustainable development.

By prioritizing inclusive learning and access to modern educational tools, the First Lady said the nation could better equip its population to thrive amid global technological advancements.

Her message aligns with ongoing efforts to integrate digital literacy, critical thinking, and ethical frameworks into Nigeria’s educational system, ensuring that the next generation can fully participate in a world increasingly shaped by AI and automation.
