President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Guards Brigade of the Nigerian Army for enhancing security around the Presidential Villa and across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during 2025. The commendation was delivered on Saturday in Abuja at the Guards Brigade 2025 West African Social Activities (WASA), where Tinubu was represented by Defence Minister, retired Gen. Christopher Musa.

The president praised the brigade’s sustained clearance operations and peace-restoring efforts in surrounding communities, noting that they significantly contributed to the improved safety now enjoyed in the FCT. He described WASA as more than a cultural showcase, emphasizing its role in celebrating the resilience, cohesion, and dedication of officers and soldiers throughout the year.

Tinubu highlighted the importance of culture as an anchor of national identity, reminding Nigerians of their history and achievements while preparing them for the future. He expressed confidence that the Guards Brigade would continue to meet its strategic responsibilities, urging personnel to maintain professionalism, discipline, and commitment.

The president also commended the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies for their efforts against insurgents, terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements, which he said were yielding tangible improvements nationwide. He praised Brig.-Gen. Adebisi Onasanya, the Commander of the Guards Brigade, along with officers, soldiers, and their families, for their hard work and sacrifices.

Earlier, Onasanya reaffirmed the brigade’s commitment to safeguarding the Presidency, strategic installations, and maintaining stability within the FCT. He cited the brigade’s day-and-night area domination, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with other security agencies as key to its successes, which were achieved through professionalism, intensive training, and high morale despite long deployments.

The event also featured cultural displays from various ethnic groups and the presentation of awards to outstanding personnel and battalions for their performance in operations and training in 2025.
