Snow and Heavy Rain Kill Dozens Across Afghanistan

Snowfall and heavy rain have killed at least sixty one people across Afghanistan over the past three days, the country’s disaster management authority said on Saturday.

The Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority said in a post on X that one hundred and ten people were injured, while four hundred and fifty eight houses were partially or completely destroyed.

According to the authority, the casualties occurred between Wednesday and Friday, mainly affecting central and northern provinces. A map released alongside the statement showed widespread impact from severe winter weather.

Afghanistan is highly vulnerable to extreme weather, with heavy snowfall and rain often causing deadly floods, avalanches and damage to poorly built homes, particularly in rural and mountainous areas.
