Former Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure has praised Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the standout team at the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, highlighting their attacking football and overall performances despite their semi-final exit, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Nigeria enjoyed a remarkable campaign, scoring 14 goals while conceding just four across seven matches. The team was particularly solid in the knockout stages, not conceding a single goal before their narrow elimination by Morocco in the semi-finals.

Speaking to Bleacher Report Football, Toure lauded both Nigeria’s style of play and their attacking statistics.

“I was impressed with Nigeria, Nigeria play good football. When you see the stats, they’ve been scoring more than usual goals. It feels like full attack, playing very good football,” he said.

Toure singled Nigeria out ahead of other tournament contenders. “The most impressive for me in my opinion was Nigeria, the football they were playing, the goals they were scoring. The players winning because the two best African players on their team,” he added.

Despite their performances, Toure felt Nigeria’s semi-final exit was harsh. “They played such wonderful games and get kicked out by Morocco in the semifinals,” he said. The Super Eagles later claimed the bronze medal, defeating Egypt 4–2 on penalties after a draw in regulation time, finishing as the tournament’s most prolific attacking side.

Reflecting on other teams, Toure acknowledged Algeria’s quality, noting their unfortunate exit at the hands of Nigeria. He also praised Morocco’s tactical discipline under head coach Walid Regragui, describing their pragmatic, counter-attacking style.
