The Chigbo family has announced the death of Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo, a prominent Abuja-based lawyer, who was reportedly killed by kidnappers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Dr. Maureen Chigbo, the publisher of Realnews Magazine and a former President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, disclosed the incident in a statement on Thursday. According to her, Princess Nwamaka was abducted while on a phone call with her sister. Distress cries were heard before the call abruptly ended. The kidnappers later demanded a ransom of three million Naira.

Despite the family’s efforts and constant contact with the FCT Police, including the Scorpion Squad, the lawyer’s life could not be saved. Her body was later discovered at a specialist hospital with signs of torture, including bruises, swollen eyes, and a cracked skull.

Princess Chigbo was an active member and former treasurer of the Nigerian Bar Association, Abuja branch, and a member of several international and local legal associations, including FIDA and GAFA. She was also deeply involved in Catholic religious groups and authored a book on the Infant Jesus.

The family has expressed gratitude to the police for their cooperation and urged authorities to ensure justice is served. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course.

The FCT Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, which follows the recent murder of nurse Chinnemerem Chukwumezie in Abuja, highlighting growing concerns over citizen safety, particularly for essential workers.
