The Federal Government has confirmed that all group-stage bonuses owed to Super Eagles players at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have been fully released and are expected to reflect in the players’ domiciliary accounts within hours.

The Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite, disclosed this on Thursday amid reports that members of the national team were considering boycotting training sessions and might refuse to travel to Marrakesh for their quarter-final match against Algeria over unpaid entitlements.

In a statement shared on her official X handle, Uzoka-Anite said the concerns had been resolved through coordinated efforts between the Federal Government and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). She explained that measures were put in place to ensure faster and more predictable disbursement of funds in line with international best practices.

According to the minister, all bonuses earned by the players during the group stage of the tournament have been fully processed and cleared through the necessary regulatory procedures. She added that the government also introduced a fast-track conversion process to meet the players’ preference for payment in foreign currency.

“The final transfers to domiciliary accounts are currently in flight. Players can expect these funds to reflect starting today (Thursday) or tomorrow (Friday),” Uzoka-Anite stated.

She stressed that the welfare and morale of the Super Eagles remain a top priority as the team advances into the knockout phase of the competition. The minister noted that the administration is determined to ensure that off-field issues do not distract the players from their performance on the pitch.

Uzoka-Anite also reaffirmed the government’s support for the team, expressing confidence in their ability to maintain momentum as the tournament progresses. “Our focus remains entirely on supporting the team’s welfare so they can maintain their incredible momentum in the knockout rounds,” she said, adding that the ultimate goal is to bring the AFCON trophy home.

The update is expected to ease tensions and allow the Super Eagles to focus fully on their quarter-final clash as their AFCON 2025 campaign continues.
