Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s government of lacking the political will to effectively combat insecurity in Nigeria.

Speaking in Kano on Tuesday during the unveiling of the new 2000 Neighborhood Security Network by the Kano State Government, Kwankwaso urged President Tinubu to “rise to the occasion and answer his Commander In Chief name to tackle the problems of insecurity.”

Kwankwaso praised the Nigerian military as one of the most gallant forces, having served in global conflicts such as Darfur and Liberia. However, he criticized the current government for failing to provide the necessary support to enable the military to perform effectively.

He lamented the ongoing insecurity, saying, “Many Nigerians are being killed innocently and their killers get away with their atrocities as if nothing happened. The Government must apologize to Nigerians for their laxity in the fight against insecurity.”

Reflecting on his time as Defence Minister, Kwankwaso emphasized his knowledge of the military’s strength and courage, but stressed that political will is essential to empower them to act decisively. “President Tinubu should rise to the occasion and equip them with all they required to change the narratives,” he said.

He also stated firmly, “Any government that fails to protect lives and properties, that government have woefully failed and has no business being in government.”

Kwankwaso called on the federal government to adopt initiatives like the Kano Neighborhood Security Network within the military structure to boost morale and enhance collaborative efforts in tackling insecurity.
