Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 general election, has announced that the party will maintain vigilant oversight of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 general election. He emphasized the critical role of INEC in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy.

Kwankwaso made these remarks in Abuja during the NNPP national convention, which took place shortly after newly re-elected party executives took their oath of office. The event was attended by INEC representatives, party leaders, and delegates from across the country.

The NNPP national leader congratulated INEC on the appointment of its new national chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, and stressed that public confidence in elections largely depends on the commission’s conduct.

He said, “Let me thank all of you, especially those who came from far. I also want to appreciate the INEC representatives here today and, through you, congratulate the newly appointed National Chairman of the commission, Prof Joash Amupitan.

I want to say so far so good, we are keeping our eyes on INEC because its job is so critical that it can make or mar democracy in this country. Thank you for coming, and we look forward to an even better relationship between INEC and, of course, our party.”

Kwankwaso assured that the NNPP leadership at all levels would continue to work tirelessly to strengthen the party. He also expressed gratitude to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf for his steadfast support over the years. Governor Yusuf cautioned against internal exclusion that could weaken the party’s base.
