Rory McIlroy has been awarded the 2025 BBC Sports Personality of the Year, a significant achievement in his distinguished career. At 36, the Northern Irish golfer became the first to receive this honor since Nick Faldo in 1989, winning the public vote. His remarkable year featured several accomplishments: he won The Masters in April, achieving a career Grand Slam, and led Team Europe to a historic Ryder Cup win in New York. He also triumphed at The Players Championship, the Amgen Irish Open, and secured his seventh Race to Dubai title.

From Augusta to the Ryder Cup and everything else in between, it really has been the year that dreams are made of.”

Additionally, the European Ryder Cup team, with McIlroy as a key member, received the Team of the Year award. Their win at Bethpage Black marked the first away victory for Europe in 13 years. McIlroy’s achievements not only highlight his individual talent but also signify a revival of golf in the UK, inspiring a new generation of players.
