Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has expressed his strong belief that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will soon secure control of the remaining three states in Nigeria’s South-South region currently governed by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Otu made the statement following the recent reception of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori into the APC fold, a move that further strengthens the party’s presence in the region.
Otu, who serves as the Vice Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum, emphasized that Cross River State, once the sole APC-controlled state in the South-South, now proudly stands alongside Delta and Edo States under the party’s banner. He pointed out that the inclusion of these states marks significant progress for the APC in the region.
The remaining PDP-controlled states in the South-South are Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers State, with the latter currently under emergency rule following the suspension of Governor Sim Fubara. Governor Otu expressed confidence that once these states align with the APC, it will foster regional collaboration, accelerate economic growth, and contribute to greater political stability in the area.
Otu also urged the newly joined APC members, including Governor Oborevwori, to bring their political expertise and grassroots mobilization power to the table. Together, Otu believes the APC will continue to shape a brighter future for both the South-South region and Nigeria as a whole.
