Paul Chukwuma, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate for the Anambra State election on November 8, 2025, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s youth development policies, emphasizing their alignment with his vision for progress. In an interview at his home in Umueri, Anambra East Local Government Area, Chukwuma, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Auditor, expressed admiration for Tinubu’s initiatives, despite his defection to the YPP due to irregularities in the APC’s primary process.

Chukwuma highlighted Tinubu’s policies, such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) and programs promoting skills, employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation, as critical for empowering Nigeria’s youth. “I believe in President Tinubu’s policies, especially those that focus on youth empowerment,” he said, describing himself as an “endemic progressive” whose ideals resonate with Tinubu’s vision. He noted that the YPP’s ideology, which prioritizes youth participation in governance, mirrors the progressive mindset of the APC, making his transition seamless. “The YPP’s ideology resonates with me, and I’m excited to be part of a party that shares my passion for progress and development,” he added.

If elected, Chukwuma pledged to “connect Anambra State to the centre,” leveraging Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to drive growth in infrastructure, security, and job creation. “If elected, I will work to connect Anambra State to the centre, leveraging President Tinubu’s policies to drive growth and development,” he stated, emphasizing his commitment to aligning state priorities with federal opportunities. He cited the revival of the Port Harcourt Refinery and urban renewal projects in the Federal Capital Territory as evidence of Tinubu’s transformative leadership, which he aims to replicate in Anambra.

Chukwuma’s decision to join the YPP was influenced by its focus on discipline and youth-centric policies, which he believes align with Tinubu’s national vision. After securing the YPP ticket unopposed with 366 votes in a transparent primary on April 10, 2025, he vowed to challenge incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), whom he accused of failing to deliver a “Dubai/Taiwan” state as promised. “Soludo’s best is not good enough to lift the state to the next level,” Chukwuma asserted, positioning the YPP as a viable alternative.

His campaign, bolstered by the selection of Chief Uzu Okagbue as his running mate, focuses on ending insecurity, easing business regulations, and creating jobs, particularly for youth. The YPP’s Southeast Zonal Chairman, Mike Ejezie, praised Chukwuma’s strategic vision, noting that his leadership could position Anambra as a hub for federal investment. X posts, such as @katajespicesltd, highlight Tinubu’s youth-focused initiatives like the Student Loan Scheme and Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), which Chukwuma aims to integrate into his governance model.

As the November 2025 election approaches, Chukwuma faces a competitive race against candidates like Nicholas Ukachukwu (APC), George Moghalu (Labour Party), and Jeff Nweke (Action Alliance). His alignment with Tinubu’s policies and emphasis on youth empowerment have sparked optimism among supporters, with residents in Awka expressing joy over the YPP’s emergence as a strong contender, according to Legit.ng. Chukwuma’s campaign underscores a broader push to bridge Anambra with federal opportunities, leveraging progressive ideals to challenge the status quo.
