Vice President Kashim Shettima has travelled to Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to stand in for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of President Alassane Ouattara on December 8, 2025.

Senator Shettima will attend the ceremony at the Presidential Palace alongside leaders from across Africa and other international guests. Ouattara secured a new term following the election held on October 25, 2025.

Nigeria’s delegation is expected to use the occasion to restate the country’s support for constitutional rule and for democratic processes across the region. The visit underscores Nigeria’s long record of backing West African partners.

Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire maintain close ties in areas such as security, trade, and development. The two states cooperate through ECOWAS and the African Union and through a Bi-National Commission. Their agreements cover topics that include combating human trafficking, improving agriculture, and growing the digital economy.

On arrival at the airport, Vice President Shettima was welcomed by Prime Minister Robert Mambe, Mrs. Item Akpama, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Nigerian Embassy, and other senior officials.
