The U.S. delegation included Secretary Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, an advisor to President Donald Trump. The Ukrainian delegation, led by Rustem Umerov, head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council, emphasized the difficult but productive nature of the talks. Key discussion points included territorial concessions and security guarantees. Although progress was made, significant challenges persist, particularly regarding the Donbas region, where Russia seeks full control. U.S. officials are communicating with Russian counterparts to gauge their stance, with plans for Witkoff to visit Moscow to engage directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised the U.S. efforts, describing the dialogue as “constructive” and focused on ensuring Ukraine’s sovereignty. The talks also addressed Ukraine’s long-term prosperity, with both parties recognizing the need for a comprehensive strategy that not only resolves the conflict but also promotes economic recovery and stability.
