The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has accused presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga of trying to shift attention away from problems in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
POMR spokesperson Ibrahim Umar issued a warning to Onanuga, urging him not to attack former Labour Party candidate Peter Obi. The statement responds to remarks by Onanuga after Mr. Obi reacted to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to send American forces against terrorists in Nigeria.
On X, Onanuga wrote: “We shall never forget and forgive Peter Obi for supporting a foreign invasion of Nigeria.”
Umar said Onanuga should instead focus on how the government will tackle rising insecurity and the worsening economy. He added that the views of the United States and other international actors are not directly linked to Mr. Obi’s comment.
POMR described Onanuga’s words as an attempt to distract the public from real issues, naming increased insecurity, high inflation, and corruption as the key concerns affecting citizens. The group urged Nigerians to ignore what it called the presidency’s fixation on Peter Obi.
POMR called for attention to be returned to solving the country’s challenges rather than to personal attacks.
