The Dallas Mavericks have parted ways with General Manager Nico Harrison, effective November 11, 2025, following a series of decisions that adversely affected the team’s performance and fan relations.

Harrison, who joined the organization in 2021 after nearly two decades at Nike, was notably responsible for the controversial February 2025 trade that sent star player Luka Dončić to the Los Angeles Lakers. In exchange, the Mavericks received Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a future first-round pick, a move that triggered widespread criticism, including chants of “Fire Nico” and protests from fans at games.

Despite the backlash, Harrison defended the trade as a strategic decision aimed at strengthening the team’s defense. Unfortunately, the aftermath saw the Mavericks struggling, with a disappointing 3–8 record to start the 2025–26 season. This decline was exacerbated by injuries and a lack of team cohesion, leading to reduced attendance and strained relationships with their fan base.

In light of these challenges and ongoing fan dissatisfaction, Mavericks owner Patrick Dumont announced Harrison’s dismissal, asserting that it was necessary for the franchise’s future direction. To navigate this transitional period, Assistant General Managers Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi have been appointed as co-interim GMs while the team searches for a permanent successor.

This decision marks a pivotal moment for the Mavericks as they aim to rebuild and restore their competitive edge in the NBA. The organization is now focused on addressing the ramifications of the recent trade and the challenges in team dynamics and fan engagement.
