Man Arrested in Adamawa State Over Brutal Killing of POS Operator

A man identified as Umar SNU has been apprehended in Adamawa State in connection with the violent death of Abbas Yuguda, a 35-year-old Point of Sale (POS) operator. The arrest was made by operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command following a deadly assault in Mayo-Belwa Local Government Area.

According to a statement released by Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje in the early hours of Monday, March 24, 2025, the incident occurred on March 22, 2025. The victim was attacked while returning home after closing his business for the day. “Some groups of people armed themselves with offensive weapons, attacked and inflicted severe injuries on his head and left him lying in a pool of blood,” the police detailed. Operatives from the Divisional Police Headquarters in Mayo-Belwa responded swiftly, rushing Yuguda to Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The police statement further revealed that Umar SNU, identified as one of the suspects, was pursued by an enraged group of youths following the attack. He was subjected to mob action before being rescued by law enforcement. “He was equally rushed to hospital for medical attention where he is now aiding investigation,” the police noted, indicating that Umar SNU is currently assisting with the ongoing probe into the killing.

The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a full investigation into the gruesome murder, aiming to uncover the circumstances and bring all perpetrators to justice. The incident underscores rising concerns over violent crimes targeting small-scale business operators in the region.
