Abia State Governor Alex Otti has addressed the controversy surrounding the recent sealing of a property associated with the Renewed Hope Agenda in Umuahia, clarifying that the move was purely administrative and not driven by political interests.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ukoha Ukoha, the governor explained that the action was part of a broader enforcement initiative by the state’s Harmonised Task Force, which is implementing court directives across the capital. He emphasized that the operation was not targeted at any political group or agenda.
Governor Otti revealed that he ordered the immediate reopening of the premises after the issue was brought to his attention by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu. He stressed that the sealing was not an isolated incident but part of a statewide effort to ensure compliance with statutory property regulations.
“The property was unsealed promptly to allow for the regularization of its documentation,” the statement noted. “This was a routine enforcement action against properties that failed to meet legal obligations, including outstanding ground rent and related charges.”
The governor cautioned against politicizing the matter, urging the public and opposition figures to refrain from assigning political motives to the task force’s activities. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and the rule of law in all enforcement actions.
