The United Nations Security Council unanimously approved U.S.-drafted Resolution 2803, endorsing former President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza. The resolution passed with 13 votes in favor while Russia and China abstained. It aims to establish a lasting ceasefire, authorizing the deployment of an International Stabilization Force (ISF) to oversee demilitarization and reconstruction efforts in the region.

Resolution 2803 calls for the establishment of a transitional governing body, the Board of Peace, tasked with coordinating the rebuilding of Gaza and facilitating the return of displaced residents. The ISF, comprised of international troops, will ensure regional security, manage border controls, and assist in demilitarization efforts. The mandates for both the Board of Peace and the ISF are set to expire at the end of 2027.

U.S. Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, praised the resolution as a pivotal step towards transforming Gaza from a “hell on earth” into a stable locale. He emphasized the necessity of international collaboration for the plan’s success, framing it as a shared commitment to stability in the Middle East.

Former President Trump heralded the Security Council’s endorsement as a historic achievement, expressing optimism for lasting solutions not only for Gaza but potentially for global peace.

The resolution includes provisions for a potential pathway to Palestinian statehood, contingent upon successful reforms and reconstruction. Reactions have been mixed; while the Palestinian Authority showed support, Hamas vehemently opposed the plan, rejecting any oversight and disarmament.

US classifies four Antifa groups as foreign terrorist organizations for the first time.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation, hopeful that the Security Council’s decision will lead to a sustainable and peaceful future for Gaza and its residents.
