Following the tragic killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba by suspected ISWAP militants, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has issued a scathing critique of President Bola Tinubu’s handling of national security, accusing him of neglecting his core duty as Commander-in-Chief.
In a statement released Monday, Atiku expressed deep sorrow over the ambush that claimed the life of General Uba and several soldiers in Sabon Gari, Damboa LGA of Borno State. He described the incident as a devastating blow and a sign of growing terrorist boldness.
“I am deeply disturbed by the reports of General Musa Uba’s death. This is not just a military loss—it’s a national tragedy,” Atiku said.
He criticized the military leadership for failing to provide clarity on the circumstances of the attack, calling it a troubling silence that reflects poorly on the government’s crisis response.
Atiku didn’t mince words in his assessment of the presidency, accusing Tinubu of prioritizing political battles over national security. “This is a clear failure of leadership. The President appears more focused on crushing opposition voices than fulfilling his constitutional duty to protect Nigerians,” he stated.
Calling for decisive military intervention, Atiku urged the federal government to deploy forces across Borno State and any other region under siege by insurgents. He emphasized that the safety of citizens and the morale of the armed forces must be paramount.
“If I were in charge, I would order a full military occupation of any state under threat until peace is restored,” he said. “We owe it to our brave soldiers to back them with action, not just words.”
He extended his condolences to the Nigerian military, the families of the fallen, and the nation at large, urging unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
“This is a painful chapter, but it will pass. We must remain strong and demand accountability from those in power,” Atiku concluded.
