The National Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Ajuji Ahmed, says the party remains firm in Kano and plans to broaden its reach across northern states ahead of the 2027 elections, despite recent defections.

Ahmed responded to the departure of two House of Representatives members, Abdulmumin Jibrin and Sagir Koki, who joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He described their exits as personal choices and not a setback for the NNPP. “I have just two words for them: good luck,” he said, and added that the party continues to attract new members, particularly in Kano.

The chairman expressed confidence that the NNPP will retain Kano in 2027 and is targeting other states, including Jigawa and Kaduna. He said the party is ready to contest elections on its own or form alliances where helpful.

Ahmed also claimed the NNPP had a rightful win in Taraba in the last election but lost the mandate. He said the party aims to recover and strengthen its representation in the next poll.

The lawmakers who left cited internal disagreements as their reason for defecting. Observers note that several figures from Kano and Jigawa have recently moved to the APC, but the NNPP leadership insists the party’s base remains intact and that it will press on with its plans for growth in the north.
