A leading Igbo socio-cultural group, Igbo Union/Nzuko Ndi Igbo, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to publicly honour governors who are delivering results in their states. The group says this would help build cooperation between the presidency and state leaders who are working to give people real benefits.

In a press release in Abuja signed by Convener Prince Elias Odoemena, the group singled out Abia State Governor Alex Otti for praise. It said Governor Otti has made strong gains for residents by focusing on education and people, roads, hospitals and health centres, and steady power supply.

“Governor Otti and some governors are seriously delivering dividends of democracy in their respective states, thereby following the footsteps of our great president, who has been a touch-bearer on issue of delivery of democracy dividends.

Prince Odoemena said the success in some states grew from policies that let state governments keep more funds, combined with the drive and skill of certain governors. He said these leaders have used the extra resources to make visible changes where people can see them.

“Governor Alex Otti has raised the bar of governance in Nigeria higher and turned Abia State to be one of the most secured States to do business in Nigeria with huge infrastructure development through one of his secret moves known as Each day Many Projects Move; development initiatives which have finished more than two hundred projects under two years in office.’

The convener warned that some local critics and failed politicians will keep attacking progress. He asked Governor Otti not to be distracted by those voices and to stay focused on making Abia a top state for human development.

Prince Odoemena also urged President Tinubu to call out governors who are not delivering services, saying voters will blame the federal government if states fail. “President Tinubu should also ask the governors who are not performing to emulate Governor Alex Otti, Fintiri of Adamawa State, Adeleke of Osun State and even the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike,” they stressed.

The group said it wants unity and steady action so more Nigerians can feel the benefits of democracy.
