The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has accused Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso of actions that have hurt the party and prompted many members to leave for the APC and PDP.
The claim followed the recent moves by Rep. Abdulmuni Jibrin, who returned to the APC, and Ambassador Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, who joined the PDP. The party’s National Secretary, Dr. Ogini Olaposi, said these exits stem from a leadership rift tied to Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiya Movement.
“The NNPP faced a series of litigations and still faces a leadership crisis when Kwankwaso and his movement tried to hijack the party’s leadership and structures,” he said.
Olaposi added that the unrest has driven several key figures in Kano to leave and has weakened morale among loyal members. He also accused Kwankwaso and his supporters of letting down the party’s founder.
“The unfortunate thing is that Kwankwaso and his followers betrayed the trust reposed in them by Dr Boniface Aniebonam, Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the NNPP,” Olaposi added.
The secretary warned that, with INEC yet to finalize the internal dispute, more members may exit as uncertainty grows.
“With INEC yet to resolve the NNPP leadership crisis despite the landmark judgments affirming the Dr Agbo Major-led National Working Committee, there is a tendency that many more members, who are not sure of their fate, will leave,” he said.
The party made clear it will not force anyone to stay and stressed that joining another party is a personal choice.
“It’s the right of every Nigerian to choose the party they wish to belong to. The defectors did not join another party under duress but out of their free will because of our internal leadership crisis,” the statement read.
Dr. Olaposi closed by urging patience and calling for steps to heal the split, while also asking INEC to act on court rulings.
“It’s our hope that INEC should not wait for a compelling order of the court to obey valid court judgements,” he added.
I think NNPP is just deflecting blame. Kwankwaso isnt the only factor here.
I think NNPP should take responsibility for their own internal issues.
Why should NNPP take responsibility for internal issues? Others should do the same.
I think NNPP is just deflecting blame. Kwankwaso may not be the real issue.
Kwankwasos track record speaks for itself. NNPP needs to address the real issues.
I think NNPP should focus on their own issues instead of blaming others.
I think NNPP is just trying to shift blame. Kwankwaso isnt solely responsible.
Stop making excuses. Kwankwasos actions speak for themselves. NNPP needs to take responsibility.
