Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has taken a swipe at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over its November 15 national convention, calling it nothing more than a social gathering with no real political value.
In a recent interview, Wike said the event lacks credibility because the party chose to ignore a valid court ruling that advised against holding the convention. He argued that any party aiming to lead the country must first show it respects the law.
Wike didn’t hold back in his criticism, also calling out PDP elder Chief Olabode George for speaking on issues he believes George doesn’t fully understand. He urged party leaders to stop brushing aside legal orders and instead prove to Nigerians that they are serious about following due process.
He pointed out that a committee led by Senator Bukola Saraki had already recommended postponing the convention to address internal problems, but the advice was ignored. According to Wike, this shows the event is more about celebration than fixing the party’s issues.
“They are meeting for a party, for a party,” Wike said. “They can go ahead to gyrate. They can gyrate. At the end of the day, who wins?”
He added that obeying court judgments and not just temporary orders is key to restoring the party’s image and regaining public trust. Wike’s remarks have stirred fresh debate about the PDP’s direction and its readiness for future elections.
Wike needs to focus on unity within PDP, not just throwing shade. 🤷♂️
Maybe Wike has a point – parties should focus on progress, not just politics.
Maybe Wike has a point, PDP needs to step up their game 🤔
I think Wike has a point – political parties should focus on progress, not just partying.
