The Federal Executive Council, chaired by President Bola Tinubu, approved several key projects for the Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike told State House reporters after the meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

“Council ratified the approval for the design and construction of official residences for the heads of the federal courts,” he said. The decision covers homes for the President of the Court of Appeal, the President of the Industrial Court, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court. Work on these homes has already begun, and a consortium of firms is being finalised to ensure they are delivered on time.

Council also cleared new water projects to serve satellite towns around Abuja, including Karu, Karshi, Orozo and Bwari. Mr Wike noted that the President had earlier opened part of the Greater Abuja Water Supply project and that this next phase has now been launched, with an expected handover by May next year.

The Council implemented some rehabilitation work at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, which was carried out under emergency procurement to meet international standards. The President has since inaugurated the upgraded facility.

In addition, FEC approved a new engineering contract for the Maitama II district. The area covers more than 786 hectares, much of which had been allocated without basic services. An earlier contract awarded about five years ago never began and was terminated when the current administration took office. The new contract aims to provide roads, drainage, power and other essential works to open up the district. Mr Wike said the government will give the project focused attention to ensure its success.
